Ph. D. Project
Title:
Neural basis of face and wisual word recognition and their interaction
Dates:
2022/10/01 - 2025/09/30
Supervisor(s):
Description:
The selected candidate will focus on research on the neural mechanisms of visual recognition/categorization of faces and letters/words and their interactions (competition, differences in representation, degree of lateralization) as studied with labeled electrophysiological activity. in frequency (EEG and intracranial EEG). Neuropsychological and electrophysiological measurements during intracerebral electrical stimulation of the human ventral occipito-temporal cortex will also be part of the doctoral program (see examples of relevant publications below).

The successful doctoral student will become a full member of the Systems and Cognitive Neurosciences group of CRAN (UMR7039), a unit closely linked to clinical research at the Nancy University Hospital (CHRU), bringing together researchers in neurosciences, cognitive sciences, signal processing, neuropsychologists and neurologists. He/she will have access to state-of-the-art research facilities at the University of Lorraine and CHRU-Nancy.

The candidate must hold a Master's degree in neuroscience, cognitive science, biology, engineering, psychology or equivalent. Ideally, he/she should also have a good level in French and a solid background in cognitive neuroscience. Knowledge of electrophysiology/neuropsychology, programming skills (e.g. R, Matlab or Python) and a good level of English are a plus. Motivation, curiosity, creativity, perseverance and the ability to work in a team are also essential personal qualities.
